In recent years, I've traveled a lot around Russia and the world. I wandered through the abandoned polar villages of Vorkuta, Murmansk, and Norilsk, traveled along the Kolyma highway all alone, hid in abandoned ships on the shores of the Pacific Ocean.

I climbed the peaks of the Caucasus, the lonely lighthouses of Sakhalin, and the skyscrapers of Shanghai. I walked through the desert where the Aral Sea once lapped...
